This is not meant to be the longest list of links for EFL/ESL teachers and students. We do want it to be one of the best though, so we have chosen just a few links to really great sites for anyone connected with learning or teaching English as a foreign or second language.

 

  • TED Presentations

      An excellent source of professional presentations given in English that can be used to improve listening skills whilst learning more about topics that are of interest to you.

    • News in Levels

      An excellent news website built especially for English language students. Students can choose to read from a selection of up-to-date news stories, each written in three different levels of difficulty. This way students can read the news at a language level they understand. This website is also perfect for comparing how different ways of writing the same story affect its difficulty in terms of language.

    • Duolingo

      Duolingo is a free online learning programme. Students earn points for correct answers and can move up levels by completing a variety of speaking, listening, translation, and multiple choice challenges

    • ESL Point

      An online resource where teachers and students can find great teaching/learning materials on a variety of subjects. There are links to thousands of pages of ESL/EFL-related material, all categorized according to skill and difficulty.

    • Activities for ESL Students

      Activities for ESL Students is a website with thousands of quizzes, tests, exercises and puzzles to help students learn English. All of the activities are divided by their level of difficulty, making it easy for students to find English exercises to suit them.

    • ESL Cafe

      This is the original and still largely definitive collection of EFL/ESL ideas and links on the web. Not the flashiest design, but an enormous range of material and places to visit, plus a good online chat room.

    • BBC Learning English

      The BBC Learning English website has a lot of resources for learners of English as a foreign language including online courses, interactive exercises and glossaries of useful vocabulary.

    • Cambridge Dictionaries Online

      A free resource, which allows you to search 4 online dictionaries; the Cambridge International Dictionary of English, the Cambridge Dictionary of American English, the Cambridge International Dictionary of Idioms and the Cambridge International Dictionary of Phrasal Verbs.

    • ESL Discussions

      A large index of questions related to various topics. This is a great resource for teachers using question and answer pair work in class. It is also useful for student to practice answering the questions on their own.

      Not the newest website around but still a great place to find teaching materials. If you need information on a special topic for your class, you are sure to find a good link to it via this website.

      A good source of simple English grammar lessons and rules. Not the most modern looking but it does provide good, simple lessons.
